Do I need special certifications to operate a pontoon boat in Destin?
If you were born on or after January 1, 1988, you are required to have a boater’s license at the time of rental. If you don’t have one already, please either come prepared by completing the required forms digitally or take a simple half hour boating safety course upon arrival. The Florida State – Approved Boat Rental Course, must be completed before departure and prices vary from $9.99 to complete digital form prior to arrival or $3 for the written version and on-site course. We recommend using these digital forms to help expedite your check-in process (Digital Waiver Form and Florida Boat Rental Education Digital Course)! For anyone born before 1988, a boater’s license for this rental is not required and you will be asked to provde a driver’s license to verify age.
Florida State–Approved Boat Rental Course
This Boat Education Course must be completed before license will be issued and Pontoon Boat rentals are allowed to depart. This course can be completed in online before arrival for $9.99, or show up 30 minutes early for our half hour boat saftey class followed by a $3 written test.
Are pontoon boats a kid-friendly option?
Absolutely! In fact, even your four-legged “kids” can join you for the ride. Our pontoon boats are so safe and simple to operate that even kids can take a turn at the wheel. The stability of the boat makes it easy to corral even very young children while you’re in motion. It’s also easy to disembark for a swim or an exploratory expedition on a beach.
What else do I need to know about renting a pontoon boat?
The boat’s renter is required to be more than 18 years old, but there is no age limit for passengers. Our staff members will give you the simple demo of how to drive the boat before you take off, and you will be good to go! We will also familiarize you with the boat’s safety equipment (such as the personal floatation devices required by the U.S. Coast Guard). We will also be happy to go over the chart (water map) of the waters around Destin before you head out. Ask for the inside tips of local favorites and you will find some spots the tour boat crowds never see!
Why rent a pontoon boat? What are the advantages?
When you rent one of our comfortable pontoon boats, you make the entire Destin seascape your own playground. Rather than being held to the schedule (and expense!) of a tour boat operator, you can set the agenda AND the course of sail! You and your group can enjoy each other’s company without being crowded onto a deck full of other tourists. Go where you want, when you want.
By renting our pontoon boats and captaining them on your own, you give yourself the freedom to enjoy vacation at your own pace, instead of being at the mercy of a tour boat captain and crowded with other tourists. Enjoy the emerald waters of Destin and the Gulf coast without picking from the fixed menu of the tour boats. Embrace the freedom of doing it your way.
